In traction sheave winches, the rope runs over so-called traction sheaves. These are tensioned against each other by the rotating rope. This tension creates a frictional force which transports the rope. A traction sheave winch thus drives a rope without storing it. This means that traction sheave winches are not tied to any rope length limitation. When making the selection, the operating voltage, the diameter of the rope and the permitted payload should in particular be taken into account.
