Static e-catalogue

Static e-catalogue

Whether you handle electronic procurement via your own e-procurement system, a marketplace or a procurement service provider - catalogue data in electronic form is essential.

Thanks to our catalogue database, we can generate customised catalogues for you with customer-specific products in various formats. We create the catalogues exactly according to your specifications to ensure a smooth import.

An e-catalogue is a comprehensive collection of products and services that is available online. It contains detailed information about each item, including images, technical specifications, customised prices and availability. Integrating the e-catalogue into your e-procurement system enables a seamless ordering process as you can order directly from the catalogue. This minimises manual data entry and reduces potential errors.

On the buyer's side, a B2B order usually goes through approval procedures that are regulated by the company's internal ERP system. Sellers, on the other hand, want to offer their customers various product catalogues. The conventional approach is to create and pass on a file with the individual product range for each customer. (see Static e-catalogue)

However, updating a static catalogue is time-consuming and the subsequent ordering process requires a lot of manual work.

In order to simplify orders in the B2B sector, we offer you the option of connecting the Carl Stahl webshop and ERP systems via an interface. Standards such as OCI have proven to be established here.

OCI (Open Catalog Interface) is a standardised interface that enables the exchange of catalogue data between your e-procurement system and our systems. With OCI, you can seamlessly access the Carl Stahl webshop, which offers you a wide range of products. By implementing the OCI interface, the ordering process is automated and simplified, leading to a reduction in manual effort and errors. We are happy to support you in connecting your systems to our webshop via OCI.

Important differences between OCI and static catalogues

In static catalogues, information is not updated automatically.

Prices in static electronic catalogues are not updated daily and may no longer be correct in older catalogues. With OCI catalogues, the customer has access to live prices in the Carl Stahl webshop.

When new items are added to the range in a static catalogue, the entire catalogue has to be recreated. This is time-consuming for the supplier, who has to recreate the catalogue, and for the customer, who has to import the catalogue into their system. This process is not necessary with the OCI connection.

The electronic catalogue is usually managed via an eProcurement platform, such as Meplato or Ariba. The effort here lies with the supplier and the platform, not the customer. With OCI catalogues, the customer always has access to the latest item and price information via the supplier's online shop.

Connection to platforms

In addition, we offer our customers connections to well-known platforms such as Ariba and Meplato. These platforms are widely used in the business world and enable seamless electronic data exchange between buyers and suppliers. Connecting to these platforms opens up new opportunities for you to build business relationships and gain access to a wider customer base. Our experts support you in connecting to all platforms and ensure that data exchange functions smoothly.

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is another powerful tool that helps you to exchange data electronically with your business partners. With EDI, you can transmit various business documents such as orders, delivery notes and invoices electronically and automatically. This leads to improved efficiency in communication and enables faster handling of business processes. We are happy to support you in implementing EDI solutions to optimise data exchange with Carl Stahl.

Classification systems

Classification standards such as ECLASS and UNSPSC have made it possible to facilitate the digital exchange of product master data across different industries, countries, languages and organisations.

Thanks to the introduction of classification standards, companies can exchange product information efficiently and accurately, regardless of their industry or location. These standards provide a common language and structure for the collection, storage and transfer of product master data, which greatly simplifies communication and collaboration between different organisations.

ECLASS and UNSPSC play a central role in ERP systems in particular. They serve as the basis for creating a uniform product group structure that enables companies to categorise and organise their products efficiently. They also enable the standardised recording and transfer of product-describing characteristics of master data. This not only improves internal data management, but also facilitates communication with suppliers, customers and other business partners.

The use of classification standards such as ECLASS and UNSPSC offers numerous advantages. It improves data quality, reduces errors and misunderstandings and enables smooth integration of product data into different systems. It also promotes efficiency and transparency along the entire supply chain and enables companies to optimise their processes and reduce costs.

All in all, classification standards such as ECLASS and UNSPSC have made a significant contribution to the digital transformation of the exchange of product master data. They create a common basis that enables companies to work together effectively and realise the full potential of digital technology.

Carl Stahl classifies its products according to both the UNSPSC and the eCl@ss standard. Depending on customer requirements, we will provide you with the appropriate format. You can also see the extensive classification of our products on our product pages in the web shop.
